Whether you’re taking a quick trip across the country or starting a round-the-world adventure, Palm Beach Airport has a range of on-site parking facilities designed to accommodate you and your vehicle. It does not currently operate a pre-booking system in its parking lots, but with almost 10,000 spaces across four different facilities, there is plenty of room.

Premium parking

As close to the terminal as it’s possible to park, PBI’s Premium facility is ideal if you’re traveling on business with schedules to keep or if you want to start your trip in style. Located right outside the terminal entrance, you can park in Premium, check in and be at your gate in just a few minutes.

Short-term parking

Ideal if you’re only away for a few days or if you’re traveling with your family and all your bags, Palm Beach Airport’s four-story short-term parking facility is situated next to the terminal building and only a two-minute walk to check-in. As a multi-story facility, PBI’s short-term parking lot operates a height restriction of 6.8 feet (2.1 meters), so it’s a good idea to confirm the height of your vehicle before setting off.

Long-term parking

If you’re away for a week or more or looking to save some money, the 5,500-capacity long-term parking lot at Palm Beach Airport is ideal. Although further away, long-term parking is only a five-minute walk from the terminal and typically more affordable than the airport’s short-term and premium parking facilities. It’s important to note that most of the long-term parking area at PBI is housed in a multi-story facility and, while there is an open-air surface lot, there is no guarantee that a space will be available if your vehicle is over the specified height above.

Economy parking

Palm Beach Airport’s most affordable on-site parking option is its open-air economy facility, which offers 3,000 spaces within an eight-minute walk of the terminal building – also accessible via a four-minute ride on the complimentary shuttle that runs every 15 minutes. If you’re traveling on a budget, PBI’s economy lot is a great way to keep your car safe while you travel and it costs significantly less than the airport’s other parking options.

Cell phone lot

If you’re picking up passengers from the airport and you’ve arrived early, PBI operates a completely free parking lot in which you can wait. Parking in the terminal forecourt is strictly prohibited, so rather than driving aimlessly around the airport, park up in the cell phone lot until you hear from your passengers. It’s only a five-minute drive to the terminal where they’ll be ready and waiting for you.

Its award-winning terminal building and three runways handle over 150 daily non-stop flights to numerous destinations throughout the USA and Canada, as well as quick and convenient access to the Bahamas.

Location of Palm Beach Airport

Only three miles (4.8 kilometers) west of Florida’s iconic Palm Beach, PBI provides domestic and international flights for residents of Greater Miami. It is directly accessible via Congress Avenue and the Florida Turnpike if you’re headed to PBI from the surrounding region and at Exit 69 of I-95 if you’re driving to the airport from further afield.

Palm Tran, Palm Beach’s public transport provider, runs a half-hourly bus service between downtown Palm Beach and PBI, seven days a week. Taking approximately 25 minutes, the route also includes a stop at West Palm Beach Intermodal Transit Center, which serves as a hub for the region’s Tri-Rail, Amtrak and Greyhound transport services.

History of Palm Beach Airport

PBI began operations as Morrison Field in 1936, named after Floridian Miss Grace K. Morrison, who was instrumental in its planning and organization. US Army Air Forces commissioned the airfield during World War II and, in the wake of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Morrison Field was used as the staging base for the Allied invasion of France with aircraft departing from Morrison to the United Kingdom to take part in the D-Day invasion of Normandy.

After the war, Palm Beach County fought to regain full control of the airfield from the US Air Force. In 1962, the last military presence was removed and the airfield was officially renamed Palm Beach International Airport.

Over time, the runways were upgraded and new terminal facilities were opened. The 550,000-square foot (51,097-square meter) David McCampbell Terminal, named after the World War II flying ace, Medal of Honor recipient and Palm Beach resident, was designed and installed in 1988. The terminal features innovative rapid expansion capabilities, so it can easily be doubled in size in the future as PBI continues to grow in popularity and cement its reputation as one of America’s best medium-sized airports.

Just over a mile (1.6 kilometers) from Palm Beach Airport, the Embassy Suites by Hilton West Palm Beach Central offers luxurious accommodation for passengers. In addition to the convenient Stay, Park and Go package, which includes free parking for the night of your stay and up to seven more days of parking in the hotel’s secure facility while you're away, the hotel runs a complimentary shuttle service to the airport and surrounding area between 5am and 11pm.

If all you’re looking for is somewhere to rest your head before or after a big flight, the Rodeway Inn is just five minutes from Palm Beach Airport and offers affordable accommodation and ample free parking for the duration of your stay. Although there is no shuttle service on offer, staff at the Rodeway Inn will pre-book a taxi to take you to the terminal and the hotel also includes breakfast in the price of a reservation.

Paradise on Palm Beach

Built in 1902, Whitehall, now known as the Henry Flagler Museum, was dubbed the grandest and most magnificent private dwelling in the world by the New York Herald. Named after its original owner, the industrialist, philanthropist and “father of Palm Beach” Henry Flagler, the 75-room, Beaux Arts-style mansion was saved from demolition by Flagler’s granddaughter in 1959 and opened up to the public as a unique American example of European extravagant architecture and lavish furnishing at the turn of the century.

Make a splash

If you could do with cooling off before you fly, the 30-acre (12.1-hectare) Rapids Water Park is less than 10 miles (16 kilometers) away from Palm Beach Airport. The park features 35 waterslides, some reaching seven stories high, a quarter-mile (400-meter) long lazy river, a wave pool capable of generating waves up to 6.6 feet (two meters) high and numerous slides and rides for families all grouped into categories of the Biggest, Coolest and Wettest.

Rapids Water Park is a great end to a fun-filled family vacation and a good way to make sure your kids burn off any excess energy before they fly.

Which terminal?

Palm Beach International Airport’s David McCampbell Terminal currently supports three concourses that serve a combined total of 16 airlines, including major operators such as Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and Air Canada. With a daily average of 150 flights to over 30 domestic and international locations already, the terminal building is designed so that PBI’s capacity can easily be doubled in the future.

How to get to Palm Beach Airport

Car

A vital part of Palm Beach’s economic and cultural infrastructure, PBI is easy to reach by road. Congress Avenue provides direct access from downtown, while Florida’s Turnpike, also known as State Road 91 and the Ronald Reagan Turnpike, is a toll road that provides convenient connection between Florida’s coastal highways, I-75 to the west and I-95 to the east. PBI can also be accessed directly from I-95 at Exit 69 if you’re northbound and Exit 69B if you're southbound.

Regardless of where you’re driving from, you can navigate to the airport using the ZIP code FL 33406.

Bus

The Route 44 bus from Palm Tran, the region’s public transport provider, runs between PBI and downtown Palm Beach every 30 minutes, seven days a week, and stops right outside the main entrance to the airport terminal. The average journey time from the city center to the airport is 25 minutes, but it’s worth bearing in mind that this can vary depending on where you board and the level of traffic in the area. Train

Although PBI doesn’t currently have its own dedicated rail facility, the West Palm Beach Intermodal Transit Center - a regional hub for Tri-Rail, Amtrak and Greyhound services - is only 10 minutes away from the airport and is one of the main stops on the Route 44 Airport bus service.
