Anchorage Airport has short-term parking garages in both the North and South Terminals which offer the luxury of being able to walk directly to the terminal. Picking-up

Built in 1951 as Anchorage International Airport, it soon became the ‘Air Crossroads of the World’. Car

Anchorage International Airport is located in southern Alaska and you can navigate there via the ZIP code AK 99502. From the north: drive south on the Glenn Highway to Anchorage, this turns into 5th Avenue which ends at ‘L’ Street where you need to turn left. This becomes Minnesota Dive, take a right onto International Airport Road leading to the airport. From the south: drive north on Seward Highway and exit at the O’Malley interchange where you turn left on O’Malley Road. This turns into Minnesota Drive where you exit left onto International Airport Road which takes you to the airport.

Bus

ANC is served by a regular bus service, the People Mover Bus, route 7. This operates every 30 to 60 minutes depending on the time and day. The service runs from the Downtown Transit Center to the Anchorage Airport South Terminal. You can buy a pass in advance at the Transit Center or pay as you board the bus. Useful tips

Arrive two hours before your flight

Though passengers have noted the lack of delays and the speed with which you pass through security, ANC airport advise arriving two hours prior to your departure time. They also recommend checking your flight status before setting off to the airport. If checking in doesn’t take as long as expected and you find yourself with time on your hands you won’t be bored, the airport has an array of stuffed animals, from a 400 pound (180 kilogram) halibut to a grizzly bear, and if that’s not enough the wide variety of Alaskan cuisine, shops and art will keep you busy.

Be prepared for security procedures

Anchorage Airport is known for its tight security procedures so it’s advisable to check the TSA website to see what you are allowed to take in your hand luggage. The airport also advises passengers to wrap gifts after arrival as they may need to be unwrapped for screening.
