London Luton Airport (LTN) is the fifth-largest airport in the UK. It serves routes all over Europe, including domestic flights, but a large number of airlines operating from LTN travel to destinations in Asia, Africa and North America, too.

Location of Luton Airport

Luton Airport is 32 miles (51.5 kilometres) north west of Central London.

There are trains from all over Central London to Luton Parkway Station; from there, a shuttle bus takes you straight to the airport. Plenty of buses also run to Luton from Central London and further afield.

Due to its proximity to the M1, M40, M25 and A1, it is generally straightforward to drive to LTN from anywhere the country. There are lots of convenient airport parking options to choose from, but you should be aware that the airport charges drop-off fees.

History of Luton Airport

Luton Airport first opened in 1938. It was used as an RAF base during World War II and returned to public use shortly thereafter. In 1990, it was renamed to London Luton Airport to highlight its proximity to the capital and broaden its horizons to more international travellers.

The airport has one terminal. It replaced the original building in 1998 at a cost of £40 million and the Queen opened the new one to the public in 1999.
